About the study

Leopard attacks on people are a serious conservation and public-safety problem in Nepal. This study models the environmental, landscape and human factors associated with where attacks occur, identifying high-risk areas where prevention would do most good.

Contributions

  • Identification of human–leopard conflict hotspots across Nepal
  • Analysis of how forest edges and settlement density relate to attack likelihood
  • A basis for spatial zoning of wildlife management interventions
